Ways to Prepare for the Alp d’Huez Trip

9 Jun 2021
by Kristin Janacek

Ending a weeklong cycling trip with a climb of over 1000 meters through the Alps is no small feat but we’re here to help you prepare for this amazing trip. We suggest you train and perhaps fit in some events to get you prepared and psyched!

Join us for Thursday night rides:

Every week we host weekly rides around the Morningside and Virginia Highland neighborhoods. This will provide an opportunity to meet some of the individuals going on the trip. You can ask questions, figure out people who have similar riding styles and abilities to you and get some training miles in. Add it to your calendar!

Book some time in the Elemental Altitude Training Center.

This unique training center simulates altitudes up to about 10,000 feet and has a wide variety of training equipment from bike trainers, treadmills, and weights. Alp d’Huez is 6,102 feet in elevation so that’s a lot of climbing! (For reference, Atlanta is between 738 – 1040 feet above sea level.)

Participate in a mid-length or long-course triathlon, duathlon or aqua bike to test your speed and endurance.

Georgia Multisports Productions has several options throughout the year including WestPoint Olympic on June 27 where you can test your power on the 40k bike course. Or Tri The Parks intermediate distance course on July 10 where you can sprint past everyone on the bike during the 21 mile bike course.

Download Babble or Duolingo and learn some French phrases.

We will help you begin. Say “J’aime faire du velo!” You’ve just learned how to say, “I love cycling!” in French!

We hope you will All3sports Adventures on the epic vacation!
